Not a lot on a smooth relocation to cooler,
damper and "more European" Melbourne after a quick flight down from
Sydney.
Well, not a lot other than a guided
tour round the superb Melbourne Cricket Ground. And -
unfortunately - the medical duties. It becomes apparent that
Max M is going to need an operation on his hand - and that Victoria
can't refer him to Queensland. The operation will have to be
here.
Day 08 - Mon 30 Jul
City tour followed by training and organised evening
meal
City sight
seeing tour this morning for most of the party - whilst the first
laundry run is undertaken by the Wishy Washy team - much to
everyone's relief in Victoria!
Training
session in the Treasury Gardens behind Captain Cook's Cottage
provided entertainment for strolling Victorians.
Evening meal at a local restaurant attracted
the now usual compliments about the players' behaviour, followed by
a review of the videos from Saturday's games at Joeys.
Nine o'clock run
through for today's squad, and a fitness session for those not
involved in the game. (These next two single games mean that full
22-man squads can be used to give everyone game, and just as
importantly, rest time).
Victoria State 22 - 16
Sussex XV
Playing into a near hurricane strength corner-to-corner windSussex did well to hold a predominantly bigger Victoria side to
a 17-0 lead at half time. They then closed to within a point
before Victoria - with several 18s in the side - snatched another un-converted try in the dying
moments.
After post-match hospitality from a very
welcoming Quins club and Victoria state, it's off to the hotel and
the squad prepares to move on to sunnier Queensland, all that is
except Max and Doc, who prepare for an extended stay in Melbourne.
